Louisiana State Capitol Building

The Louisiana State Capital Building, completed in 1932, is the tallest capital building in America. The 450-foot, 34-story limestone building was constructed by recommendation of Huey Long, who became governor during its completion. After the completion, he was fatally wounded in the building and is buried and memorialized in the Capitol Gardens.

Each state name is etched in the steps leading to the main entrance, in order of admittance to the Union. The Observation Deck on the 27th floor offers excellent views of Baton Rouge. This National Historic Landmark is a must-see while visiting the capital city of Baton Rouge.
