Visiting Cajun Country

In the deep south of Louisiana, other wise known as Cajun Country, you’ll find a wealth of fun and interesting events, festivals, and landmarks. With choice spring and summer destinations like Lafayette, and Morgan City, there’s no reason you shouldn’t visit Cajun Country this spring and summer. Explore historic sites and destinations like the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, or tour the Alexandre Mouton House, both in Lafayette. Many Cajun Country visitors enjoy a trip to Eunice, where they explore the Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum – don’t miss out on this opportunity.

If you’re visiting Rayne, an affable and quaint city, make the drive east into Lafayette. Your spring visit means you’re just in time for college baseball. Make your way to M.L. ‘Tigue’ Moore Field, the home ballpark of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team. Check out the action when on March 15th when the Ragin’ Cajuns face in-state rival University of Louisiana-Monroe, or take in a game on April 5th when they face the University of Troy Trojans.

Fans from nearby Abbeville make their way into Lafayette to watch the Lady Ragin’ Cajuns play softball at the Alfred and Helen Lamson Park – check out a game on March 9th or 10th when they slug it out against the University of Western Kentucky.

Head for downtown Lafayette from April 24th – 28th for the Festival International de Louisiane. With free admission for all guests, the Festival International de Louisiane features live music, food vendors, and the Marche des Arts. Make your way in from Ville Platte or Franklin and experience the fun of Festival International de Louisiane.

One of the western most cities in Cajun Country is Lake Charles. Make the short drive in from Sulphur, and explore Sam Houston Jones State Park. Lake Charles is primarily known as the home of McNeese State University.

Enjoy even more college baseball action when you visit Cowboy Diamond, home of the McNeese State Cowboys baseball team. March 8th – 10th you’ll enjoy an in-state match up when the University of New Orleans visits, or, if you’re visiting closer to summer, Southeastern Louisiana University is in town from May 16th to 18th.
