Visiting Cajun Country
Cajun Country is chocked full of Creole culture, and as the steamy summer subsides, there’s no better time to become immersed in it all. From Lafayette to Morgan City to Galliano, visitors can gain insights into what makes this region so unique through community festivals, one-of-a-kind museums, and a wealth of other family-friendly fun.
Visitors to Eunice can discover local culture at historic sites like the Cajun Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center – part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve. Both are great things for families to check out while visiting the students of Louisiana State University at Eunice.
The arts are alive and well in Lafayette, and the 2015 ArtStomp event is proof. On September 12th, the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District fills with an abundance of local art, handcrafted wines, live music, grape stomping, and more, starting at 6 p.m.
It doesn’t stop there – dig even deeper by checking out the 2015 Festival Acadians et Creoles. Held October 9th through 11th, the festival invites visitors to join Lafayette residents in celebrating the heritage of the Acadians with three days of authentic food, music, and more at Girard Park.
That same weekend, Lafayette’s neighbors to the south host a festival of their own. The 2015 Cattle Fair & Festival promises a little something for everyone, with food, arts and crafts, livestock shows, parades, rides, and so much more throughout downtown Abbeville. Get there early and enjoy a full day of fun – it all starts at 11 a.m.
Cooler weather means cooler waters, which brings Cajun Country fish out of hiding – it’s time to grab your bait and tackle. Kinder and Lake Charles visitors enjoy convenient access to Bass Lake, where they’ll find the Bass Lake Boat Launch and an opportunity to reel in crappie, bluegill, and, of course, bass.
