Visiting Cajun Country
Creole heritage continues to contribute to the vibrant culture of communities from Lake Charles and Lafayette to Gray and Galliano – and it’s a great time of year to find out just what sets Louisiana’s Cajun Country apart.
Visitors to Eunice won’t want to miss a chance to discover historic sites like Cajun Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve, and the Arlington Plantation House offers Franklin visitors a one-of-a-kind glimpse into the past.
Dig in even deeper at the 2015 Experience Louisiana Festival in Eunice on October 17th and 18th. Held on the Louisiana State University Eunice campus, the festivities feature the Folklife Village, a music stage, craft village, and a range of educational activities shedding light on the history and heritage of the Sugar State’s southernmost reaches.
Skip hackneyed Halloween celebrations and take part in the 16th Annual Harvest Moon Festival on October 31st. Held in downtown Franklin, the event treats visitors to live music, kids' activities, a classic car show, BBQ cook-off, and more.
Then it’s time for the 2015 Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville. The two-day festival, featuring arts and crafts, live music, antique cars, kids' activities, and the cooking of a 5,000-egg omelette, is held November 7th and 8th.
After enduring an especially steamy summer, the people of Lafayette are ready to get out and get active in autumn's mild weather – and the 2015 Cajun Cup 10K is a great way to do it. The race’s three courses – the 10K, a one-mile fun run, and a kids' 10K challenge – begin near Vermilion and Johnson Street in downtown Lafayette.
The 2015 Light Up the Lake Christmas Celebration is the official start of the holiday season in Lake Charles. Starting at noon on December 5th the Lake Charles Civic Center is transformed into Santa's Workshop, hosting a parade, music, and more family-friendly fun.
