Visiting Cajun Country
Cajun Country really gets cookin' in the spring and summer, and visitors are invited to take a taste. This season, warming weather sets the stage for outdoor adventures in numerous state parks, and communities from Donaldsonville to Franklin to Kinder gear up for a variety of special events, festivals, and family-friendly activities.
Louisiana's routes arguably run deepest in Cajun Country, and Eunice visitors can learn about local culture at historic sites like the Cajun Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center – part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve. Both are great things for families to check out while visiting the students of Louisiana State University at Eunice.
Head to Kemper Williams Park in Patterson for the 2016 Cypress Sawmill Festival, April 1st through 3rd. A five-time winner of Louisiana's Festival of the Year, the annual-favorite event features live music, carnival rides and games, and more.
If it's a little more action you're after, check out Monster Jam on April 3rd at the Cajundome in Lafayette. See ee El Toro Loco, Monster Mutt, Grave Digger, and all your other favorites as they rev up for a car-crushing good time at 2 p.m.
On May 6th, Downtown Alive! Presents Boogie Kings. Lafayette's Parc Sans Souci fills with fans of the Boogie Kings' trademark blue-eyed soul at 6 p.m., when the Louisiana Music Hall of Famers play hits from their 60-plus-year career.
The music continues on June 17, when The Guess Who come to the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles. Don't miss your chance to see decades of hits, including "These Eyes" and "American Woman" performed live. The music kicks in at 8 p.m. Get your tickets before they sell out.
