Visiting Cajun Country

Cajun Country gets cookin' in the summertime – and there's no better time to experience the region's unique flavor. From Lafayette to Morgan City to Galliano, visitors can discover what makes Cajun Country special, through community festivals, one-of-a-kind museums and cultural attractions, and a wealth of other family-friendly fun.

Visitors to Eunice can discover local culture at historic sites like the Cajun Music Hall of Fame & Museum, and the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center – part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve. Both are great things for families to check out while visiting the students of Louisiana State University at Eunice.

Long days filled with sunshine mean more time to tee off, and Cajun Country is home to countless first-rate golf courses. Golfers visiting Vinton and Lake Charles aren’t far from Frasch Park Golf Course in Sulphur. To the east, players in Lafayette can get a round in at the Wetlands Golf Course.

Midday sun can make fishing a little harder, but the cooler evenings bring the fish out of hiding. Grab your bait and tackle – Kinder and Lake Charles visitors enjoy convenient access to Bass Lake, where they’ll find the Bass Lake Boat Launch and an opportunity to reel in crappie, bluegill, and, of course, bass.

It doesn’t stop there – dig even deeper by checking out the 2016 Festival Acadians et Creoles. Held October 10th through 13th, the festival invites visitors to join Lafayette residents in celebrating the heritage of the Acadians with three days of authentic food, music, and more at Girard Park.

That same weekend, Lafayette’s neighbors to the south host a festival of their own. The 2016 Cattle Fair & Festival promises a little something for everyone, with food, arts and crafts, livestock shows, parades, rides, and so much more throughout downtown Abbeville. Get there early and enjoy a full day of fun – it all starts at 11 a.m.
