Visiting Central Louisiana

Enjoy a tour of central Louisiana this spring. From Alexandria to Natchitoches, there’s plenty to see, taste, and experience on your visit. Experience a bit of local history with a visit to the Louisiana History Museum in Alexandria, learn something about local sports legends at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, or enjoy a pleasant spring hike through the Louisiana State Arboretum State Preservation Area. The sports fan in your party will certainly enjoy a Northwestern State University baseball game at the Brown-Stroud Field in Natchitoches. Get out and explore central Louisiana this spring.

Be sure to spend a good amount of time in Alexandria. Yielding easy access to the Alexander State Forest, Alexandria is a choice destination throughout the Plantation region of Louisiana. Drive in from nearby Leesville, or Deridder and experience Alexandria this spring.

The Mardi Gras celebration in Alexandria kicks February 8th when the College Cheerleaders and Classic Cars Parade rolls through downtown. As the kickoff celebration to 20th Anniversary of Alexandria’s family-friendly Mardi Gras party, the College Cheerleaders and Classic Cars Parade will feature a line of classic hotrods slowly cruising through downtown, accompanied by local college cheerleaders. It’s an entire weekend event, so be sure to visit Alexandria February 8th through 10th – the drive in from Ville Platte or Oakdale, is well worth the time.

Enjoy the breadth of local art when you visit the Alexandria Museum of Art. Set just off the Red River in downtown Alexandria, the Alexandria Museum of Art is home to a fine collection of inspiring and stoic art. Head to the Alexandria Museum of Art Amphitheater set along the Red River – May 11th brings the 3rd Annual Louisiana Dragon Boat Races to Alexandria.

Visit the Alexandria Museum of Art any time from April 12th through June 15th for an exciting art exhibit – An Adventure in the Arts: Guild Hall Permanent Collection. You’ll enjoy works from prominent artists like Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, and Thomas Moran.
