Visiting Central Louisiana
Cooler temperatures open up even more opportunities for outdoor fun in central Louisiana, and communities from Alexandria to Leesville to St. Francisville invite visitors to join in. Festivals, special events, holiday celebrations, and countless opportunities for family-friendly fun in what may be the best weather of the year – this season is the time to visit the heart of Louisiana.
Alexandria visitors have their pick of artisan baked goods, handmade crafts, and organic produce when they visit the Inglewood Harvest Barn Market. The market is held each Tuesday and Saturday at the Inglewood Barn.
The Sugar State lives up to its nickname on November 14th, when Alexandria's Kent Plantation hosts the 2015 Sugar Day Festival. Bring the whole family to get a first hand look at how sugar is made and let the kids enjoy a variety of activities, including games, crafts, music, tours of the mansion, and more.
Louisiana, named after King Louis XIV of France, maintains a strong connection with its French roots – and the influence can be seen in the creations of local artists. It's especially apparent at the 2015 Fleur de Lis Memorial Day Weekend Craft Show, where the handmade jewelry, crafts, and other holiday gift ideas of more than 100 vendors will be on display and available for purchase. The show is held on November 28th at the the Natchitoches Events Center in Natchitoches.
On December 5th, the 2015 Natchitoches Christmas Festival is expected to be one of the nation's top holiday light shows, featuring a parade, fireworks show, live entertainment, arts and crafts, and more – all at the Downtown Riverbank.
De Ridder fills with holiday cheer that same day, as the 2015 Miracle on Washington Christmas Festival takes over Historic Downtown De Ridder, bringing with it a lively parade, holiday shopping opportunities, live music, kids' fun, and more. It all gets started around dusk on December 5th.
