Visiting Greater New Orleans

Make your way into New Orleans this spring or summer and enjoy all the festivities the city and surrounding region have to offer. From nearby cities like Luling and Slidell, to popular attractions like the French Quarter and Jackson Square – plan an exciting and memorable visit to the Crescent City. Arguably the biggest and most popular celebration hosted in New Orleans, the 2013 Mardi Gras celebration takes place February 12th – you won’t want to miss out.

Continue exploring New Orleans and its wealth of popular and iconic attractions. Don’t miss Bourbon Street or Canal Street, and be sure to make time to enjoy the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, April 26th – May 5th.

Looking for some sports action in New Orleans? Not a problem. Head to the New Orleans Fair Grounds on March 30th for the 100th Louisiana Derby – make a wager or simply watch for fun. You’ll have more sporting fun when you head to the New Orleans Arena, home of the New Orleans Hornets (soon to be Pelicans) and adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Take in a Hornets game this spring or summer – the home schedule for the Hornets wraps up on April 14th when the Dallas Mavericks visit.

While not as famous of a celebration as Mardi Gras, the Mid City Bayou Boogaloo is sure to entertain. Set along the banks of the Bayou St. John, keep exploring New Orleans on May 17th – 19th at the Mid City Bayou Boogaloo – live music, excellent local cuisine, and a wealth of interesting art.

North of New Orleans you’ll find Covington. Visit Covington on March 22nd for the Columbia Street Block Party, a free event featuring live music and a car show. You’ll want to visit the Fontainbleau State Park, and beginning on April 4th, don’t miss A Taste of Covington – a scrumptious event spanning four days in downtown Covington, accompanied by a wine tasting event. Make the drive into Covington from nearby Hammond.

West of New Orleans you’ll find Donaldsonville, home of the Historic Donaldsonville Museum. Take a cruise through Donaldsonville on March 16th and experience the Spring Arts and Crafts Festival in nearby Vacherie.
