Visiting Greater New Orleans
New Orleans festival season runs year round and this season is no exception. Sports fans are also in luck as the New Orleans Saints begin 2013 season play at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Looking for a challenge? NOLA is the place as the Play Dirty Adventure Trail Run, and Tour de Jefferson come to town. New Orleans and the Louisiana Northshore have events and fun for everyone.
Music fans mark October 18th through 20th on the calendar for the 2013 Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival at Lafayette Square Park. And don’t forget New Orleans Voodoo 2013 November 1st through 3rd on the Festival Grounds of City Park. From blues to the cutting edge of music, New Orleans is the place to visit.
For the active, Zephyr Stadium in Metairie hosts the 2013 Play Dirty Adventure Trail Run on September 14th. The 3-mile course features mud pits, tunnels, climbs and more – bring the entire family and let the kids enjoy the Play Dirty Mini-Muck run.
Cyclists take the Tour de Jefferson 2013 and discover the bayou and Mississippi River. A family friendly event, join the ride in Westwego on October 20th. The state and finish of the ride is at the Wave Pool at Bayou Segnette State Park.
Visit Northern Louisiana’s Northshore and discover the rich heritage and culture of the Pelican State. North of the Crescent City, on the north shores of Lake Pontchartrain communities like Hammond, Covington and Slidell welcome travelers along Interstate 12. Make your travels an adventure with a drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway; the worlds longest continuous bridge over water. Head north on the causeway from Metairie or travel south from North Causeway Boulevard out of Covington.
Covington is a hub of commerce and fun for Tammany Parish residents and visitors. November in Covington brings the 2013 Three Rivers Art Festival. Held November 9th and 10th, the fun begins with the Three Rivers Run, a 5K or one-mile race starting at the Covington Trailhead. Enjoy a weekend featuring arts and crafts from over 200 artisans, along with food, live music, and entertainment.
30 miles southeast of Covington in Slidell the community celebrates the popular Northshore pastime of fishing at the October Redfishtival. Held at the Northshore Harbor Center east of Interstate 10 just north of Lake Pontchartrain. Redfishtival 2013 is October 5th and 6th. Nearly 30% of Tammany Parish is water, and with plenty of marinas and boat ramps, fishing is a way of life.
