Visiting Greater New Orleans
There’s never a dull moment in the Big Easy, and a visit this fall can mean more fun than ever for the whole family. Action-packed sports, fun fall festivals, and some of the best weather of the year for countless outdoor activities – now’s the time to plan your visit to the Greater New Orleans area.
Louisiana sports fans are in the midst of an exciting season. Drew Brees looks to lead the newly retooled New Orleans Saints to a late-season turnaround as the team battles it out in the NFL’s tough NFC South division. Check the schedule to witness the hard-hitting action first hand – the Saints host home games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome through December 27th, when the Jacksonville Jaguars pay a visit.
Right next door, the New Orleans Pelicans are geared up for their 2015-16 campaign with intentions of improving on last year’s impressive effort, which ended in a tough playoff loss. Check the schedule during your visit and head to Smoothie King Center for high-flying NBA action – the Pelicans play through mid-April.
With the steamy summer now a distant memory, it’s the perfect time to explore iconic Crescent City attractions like Bourbon Street, the surrounding French Quarter, and the storied St. Louis Cathedral on foot. The adjacent Jackson Square, however, is arguably best experienced on a nighttime carriage tour.
Pig out on Big Easy culture by joining residents and visitors at the 2015 Treme Creolo Gumbo Festival. Sample the savory flavors of local gumbo purveyors and check out the homemade crafts, kids' activities, live music, and more, November 14th and 15th at Armstrong Park.
The next week, it’s another Southern specialty in the spotlight. The 2015 Oak Street Po-Boy Festival fills Oak Street, in the Carrollton Neighborhood, with a celebration of one of NOLA’s most delectable dishes. Complete with art displays, live music, craft booths, and more, this event gets cookin’ at 10 a.m.
Get in the spirit of the season as New Orleans transforms into a holiday haven, with caroling in Jackson Square, historic holiday home tours, Reveillon dinners, and much more. It’s all part of the 2015 Christmas New Orleans Style event, which brings a variety of cheer to different locations throughout town, December 1st through 31st.
