Visiting Greater New Orleans
This is the season to visit the Big Easy. Not only is the weather at its most beautiful, but festival season is just ramping up. Bring the whole family and experience countless special events, annual celebrations, pro sports, and all the rich culture of New Orleans.
Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 9th and the entire South is gearing up to celebrate. Still, there’s no place like New Orleans’ legendary French Quarter to experience Fat Tuesday. Plan your trip – and your recovery day – early. The French Quarter is sure to be packed with large and lively crowds.
It's not all beads and debauchery this season – NOLA celebrates its Spanish heritage with two weekends of cultural events, including French Quarter tours, a festive parade, and the naming of the Spanish Queen. The 2016 New Orleans Spring Fiesta takes place March 5th and 6th, and again March 12th and 13th, at venues all across the city – check the schedule during your visit for individual event times.
Louisiana sports fans may still be mourning the disappointing 2015 effort by the New Orleans Saints, but the New Orleans Pelicans are still in the climactic second half of the 2015-2016 NBA season. Gather with basketball fans at the Smoothie King Center to watch the Pelicans battle it out for a playoff spot though mid-April.
To the east in Chalmette, The Sigur Cultural Center plays host to the 2016 Louisiana Crawfish Festival, March 31st through April 3rd. It's four days of fried food and fun, with live entertainment, highlighting a variety of cultural traditions. Check the schedule during your visit to be a part of it all.
From April 22nd through May 1st, the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots venue hosts a celebration of NOLA's colorful jazz and music history. The 47th Annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is seven days of music, crafts, foods, and all sorts of cultural festivities, and the event seems to grow in popularity every year. Get your tickets today to make sure you don’t miss out.
