Purchase a $20 Ride Pass Monday through Thursday for unlimited thrills from 5 p.m. to close. Holiday in Dixie also includes the Neighborhood Block Party Day at the Carnival and the Miss Holiday in Dixie Pageant. Let the good times roll in Shreveport this spring!
History buffs have a full dance card this spring in Shreveport. Waltz through the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum at the State Fair Grounds, it is open daily and admission is free. Experience the history of Louisiana through 18 dioramas made of beeswax. Two-step over to the Spring Street Historical Museum for a glimpse of Shreveport’s beginnings – open free Tuesday through Saturday. Don’t miss other historical highlights including the Louisiana Military Museum and the Mansfield Female College Museum.
No trip to Louisiana is complete without chowing down some Creole and Cajun cuisine. Take on the oyster bar at Bear's Restaurant & Sports Bar on Fairfield Avenue or try anything on the menu at Gumbo Daddy’s on Market Street. Try Big O’s on Captain Shreve Drive – if you’re a fan, they’re known for their catfish. Eat your weight in famous Louisiana crawfish at Gerald Savoie’s on 70th Street. Other delicious spots for Cajun include Ralph & Kacoo’s Seafood on Old Minden Road and Crawdaddy’s Kitchen, owned by former LSU football star Louis Cascio.
Enjoy the Louisiana outdoors with a trip to the Red River and the many surrounding lakes of Shreveport. Take Interstate 220 West for a dip at Cross Lake. Fish for bass, admire the cypress trees, or spend the day at the public Ford Park complete with playgrounds, walking trails and tennis courts. Head back to town for a stay at one of two Best Western hotels in Shreveport.
