Visiting Plantation Country

When planning your next spring or summer trek through the south, don’t skip over Baton Rouge. A staple of Louisiana tourism, and a hub of excitement and activity, Baton Rouge and the surrounding Plantation region yield a bounty of memorable and transcendent experiences. From suburbs like Denham Springs, and Port Allen, to nearby cities like Zachary, and Plaquemine, there’s rarely ever a dull moment. Whether you tour the campus of Louisiana State University, or check out some live racing at the State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen, you’re in for an authentic southern experience.

When you plan your visit for Baton Rouge during the spring, college baseball's in full swing. Head to Alex Box Stadium, the home of LSU Baseball, any time during the spring – the season wraps up May 16th – 18th with a three-game series versus the Ole Miss Rebels. If you’re planning your visit before mid-May, don’t fret – catch an intense conference series when the Tigers face the South Carolina Gamecocks April 26th – 28th at Alex Box Stadium.

If you’re finding it difficult to aquire tickets to an LSU Tigers baseball game, head to Tiger Park and check out an LSU Ladies Softball game. April 19th – 21st you’ll be able to catch the Lady Tigers take on the University of Missouri, or visit anytime from April 26th – 28th for a showdown with SEC rival University of Alabama.

Continue your tour of Baton Rouge with a visit to the Louisiana State Capitol Building, or on March 30th head to the Baton Rouge River Center for a live performance of Dreamgirls. Looking for a little humor on your Baton Rouge visit? You’ll want to head to the Manship Theatre on April 15th for An Evening with Garrison Keillor, the noted radio host and American humorist.

Your spring visit into the Plantation region isn’t complete without a trip to St. Francisville. Set north of Zachary, St. Francisville is a charming and quaint community home to some iconic landmarks like the Butler Greenwood Plantation, and the Myrtles Plantation. Visit St. Francisville March 15th – 17th for the 42nd Annual Audubon Pilgrimage.
