The St. Francisville Audubon Pilgrimage is a spring tradition. Marking the 43rd year for the festival, 2014 events are March 21st through 23rd. Hosted by the West Feliciana Historical Society; the event features docents in authentic period dress offering tours of historic Saint Francis homes and destinations. Tour gardens filled with spring blooms – visit Grace Church cemetery to hear the tales, and enjoy old-fashioned plantation games and fun.
North of St. Francisville near the Louisiana state line, the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola greets spring with the excitement of the Angola Rodeo. The 2014 Angola Prison Rodeo is April 26th and 27th. In addition to traditional rodeo events, Angola features the Bust Out with six bulls in the arena, the Wild Horse Race, and Convict Poker.
West across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, Port Allen celebrates spring at the Annual Kite Fest Louisiane. The one-of-a-kind festival takes place at WBR Soccer Complex April 5th and 6th. The 2014 Kite Fest is the 10th anniversary event, filling the Baton Rouge sky with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes. The 2014 Hot August Night is August 15th, drawing residents and visitors to downtown Hammond, a certified Louisiana Cultural District. Beat the heat with an evening of art, music, and fun.
Baton Rouge showcases its food and wine at the annual summer Fete Rouge. The 2014 Baton Rouge food and wine festival is August 21st and 22nd. Presented by the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society, the events benefit Louisiana childhood health and nutrition programs.
