Visiting Plantation Country | Spring 2015
Venture out this spring into Louisiana’s Plantation Country and find a whole slew of attractive and fun festivals, events, and sites. Louisiana is rich in history, and as you head south into Plantation Country, discover some of the most iconic cities like Baton Rouge, Alexandria, and Deridder.
You can play 18 holes at the popular and challenging Oak Wing Golf Course, tour the halls of the Louisiana History Museum, or hike the many trails found within Alexander State Forest – all of which are premier springtime outings in Alexandria.
Enjoy an evening at the theater on your next springtime visit to Alexandria. You’ll want to head for the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center on March 7th for the Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss Celebration, one of the premier performances of the year in Alexandria.
Closer to the coast in the southeastern corner of the state, Baton Rouge yields the kind of spring fun you’ll be looking for in 2015. Explore Tiger Country – LSU Tigers, that is – with your family and check out the Louisiana State Capitol Building, or plan a hike and picnic at the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area.
On April 11th and 12th, make your way over to the WBR Soccer Complex for the annual Kite Fest Louisiane. Festivities kick off at 10a.m. If you’d rather head indoors on during the weekend, make your way to the LSU Museum of Art for this limited availability exhibit – An American in Venice: James McNeill Whistler and His Legacy. You can make the short drive in from nearby Zachary or Port Allen.
Expand your horizons with some culture this spring – visit the LSU Student Union Theatre on April 28th for a live rendition of Giselle, as performed by the Russian National Ballet.
If your visit to Baton Rouge is slated for early May, be sure to check out the three-day Louisiana International Film Festival – all films are screened at the Cinemark on Perkins Rowe. The drive in from nearby Gonzales should yield scenic views.
